John Abendschan is the campus Athletic Coordinator for Boswell High School and Head Football Coach at Boswell High School. His overall record is 90-48 over the last 12 seasons. The Pioneers have played in 19 playoff games during his time at Boswell. He was named Coach of the Year in 2015, and 2017.
John was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. His father is in the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame as a guard and kicker with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Coach Abendschan grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene Cooper High School in 1992. He attended Eastern New Mexico for three semesters competing in football for two seasons, redshirting his freshman year and captain the next season. John then transferred to Texas Tech University to walk on for Spike Dykes and be a Red Raider. He played defensive tackle for the Red Raiders football team. In 1996, he earned a football scholarship and a starting spot.
In addition to his coaching privileges, he was honored in Who's Who among American Teachers and named the 1997 Salley May First Year Teacher of the Year for Lewisville ISD. He belongs to the Texas High School Coaches Association and Coaches Outreach.
Coach Abendschan and his wife, Sherry, are proud parents of three daughters - Zoe, Ali, and Lily.
Jim Howard created Boswellsports.com in 2006 after watching Coach Abendschan's debut as Head Coach of the Boswell Pioneers. Jim was a sports writer for the Northwest Tarrant County Times-Record from 2006 to 2009. Jim has hosted the Coach Abendschan Show since 2007. He has also broadcast Pioneer football, basketball and baseball since the websites inception. He began his broadcast career as a color commentator along side legendary Oklahoma radio announcer, David Walker. Jim took over play-by-play duties several years later after the departure of Dallas Junior Stars Commentator Clif Foster. He sees himself as a "a painted faced fan with a passion for football" Jim was also named as member of the EMS-ISD Sports Hall of Fame Committee in 2017. He and his wife Sandi are the proud parents of T'kaye and Chris who are both Boswell Alumni.
